What is Peoples warranty policy?

Peoples Jewellers offers two main warranty plans: the Lifetime Diamond Commitment and the Forever Cherished Lifetime Protection Plan, each providing different types of coverage.

The Lifetime Diamond Commitment comes with diamond jewellery purchases of $200 or more. This plan is complimentary and covers repairs or replacements for diamonds that are chipped, broken, or lost from their original setting during normal use. It also includes free lifetime cleaning and inspections. To keep this warranty active, you’ll need to bring your diamond jewellery to a Peoples store for an inspection every six months, and each inspection must be documented. Missing an inspection or failing to get it recorded may void the warranty.

The Forever Cherished Lifetime Protection Plan is an optional, paid plan. It’s designed for engagement rings, wedding bands, and anniversary rings and provides lifetime coverage for maintenance on the metal parts of your jewellery. Services such as resizing, stone tightening, and polishing are covered. This plan is more flexible since it doesn’t require regular inspections like the Lifetime Diamond Commitment does, making it easier to manage over time.

What’s covered by the Peoples warranty?

Peoples’ warranty plans differ in terms of what they cover, and it’s helpful to know what protection you’re getting.

Under the Lifetime Diamond Commitment, you’re covered for any repairs or replacements needed if your diamond gets chipped, broken, or lost from its setting under normal use. You can also take your jewellery in for free cleaning and inspections for as long as you own it. Additionally, Peoples guarantees 100% of the trade-in value for diamond jewellery. This means you can trade in your diamond for a new one if you decide to upgrade, as long as you present your original receipt. Keep in mind that the trade-in value only applies if the new purchase costs at least twice the price of your original one.

The Forever Cherished Lifetime Protection Plan offers more comprehensive protection for the metal parts of your jewellery. It covers services like ring resizing, tightening and resetting of stones, repairing damaged mountings, and refinishing. It also includes more specific repairs like fixing earring backs, chains, and clasps, and even rhodium finishing for white gold pieces. If you own pearl jewellery, you’ll also have coverage for restringing cultured pearls. Plus, this plan comes with a one-time discount on a future purchase.

What isn’t covered by the Peoples warranty?

While Peoples’ warranty plans offer a solid range of coverage, there are some notable exclusions.

The Lifetime Diamond Commitment won’t cover any damage or loss caused by theft or mysterious disappearance. It also excludes coloured gemstone jewellery, previously owned items, and watches. Importantly, if you fail to bring your diamond in for inspection every six months, or if any repairs are carried out by someone other than Peoples, the warranty may be voided. Only jewellery in its original setting is covered.

Similarly, the Forever Cherished Lifetime Protection Plan doesn’t cover everything. Diamonds and gemstones aren’t included in the plan’s coverage, so only the metal parts of your jewellery are protected. Pre-existing conditions and damage caused by misuse or improper maintenance are also excluded, as is loss from theft or mysterious disappearance. If you need your ring resized more than two sizes up or down, that won’t be covered either. Repairs or alterations done by third parties will also invalidate the plan.

Other things you should know about Peoples’ warranty policy

To make any warranty claims, exchanges, or trade-ins, you’ll need to keep your proof of purchase. This is required to access the warranty benefits, so make sure you store your receipt safely. If you’re planning on gifting jewellery, the recipient will still be covered by the warranty, but they must have the receipt and follow the same requirements for inspections and repairs.

The Lifetime Diamond Commitment has a strict six-month inspection policy. If you miss an inspection or forget to have it documented, the warranty will no longer be valid. This could be a dealbreaker for some, especially if you tend to forget appointments, so it’s important to keep this in mind.

For the Forever Cherished Lifetime Protection Plan, there are no inspection requirements, making it a simpler option for long-term care. However, the plan doesn’t cover diamonds or gemstones, so if you’re looking for comprehensive protection, you might need additional coverage or consider if the Lifetime Diamond Commitment will meet your needs.

Lastly, if you can’t take your jewellery into a Peoples store and need to send it back for repairs, there could be return shipping costs involved. It’s best to check with your local store to find out what fees might apply. The process for making a claim with either plan is straightforward: you just need to bring your jewellery and the sales receipt into any Peoples store.

Peoples also offers a trade-in option under the Lifetime Diamond Commitment. If you ever want to upgrade your diamond, you can trade in your current one for a new diamond of greater value. The only condition is that the new item must cost at least twice as much as your original purchase, and natural diamonds can only be traded for natural diamonds, while lab-created diamonds can be exchanged for lab-created ones.

If you have any issues with your jewellery contact their customer service team here, and they’ll request you to send the piece back for inspection.
