I live in Canada and ordered a diamond engagement ring for my girlfriend from James Allen. We were scheduled to go on a vacation to Europe and I wanted to propose while on our trip. I had been looking for a ring for a few weeks and finally decided to go with James Allen because of their positive reviews. When I called I spoke with Rob, who was incredibly helpful. I explained to him that I live in Canada and that I was going on vacation soon so I wanted to make sure the ring would arrive before we went on our trip. I finalized the order and everything was done exactly on time (customizing the ring, shipping etc).
The only issue I had was when it arrived at the border and it was held in customs a bit longer that I had anticipated, but this was not at all the fault of James Allen and they did everything they could to expedite the process. I was quite nervous when the ring hadn’t arrived by Monday (as we were leaving on Tuesday), so I called the Canadian customs offices directly and they were also very helpful and immediately released the item. I was told they needed an original copy of the receipt and that’s why they were taking longer to release the item.
James Allen uses FedEx to ship their products and I believe FedEx should have supplied customs with the original receipt in order to avoid delays, thus I would advise James Allen to forward this information to FedEx so that they can avoid similar delays in the future.
But overall, it was a great experience ordering my ring from James Allen, the customer service was fantastic, everything was done in a timely fashion, the packaging was very good, and the ring itself was amazing and my girlfriend loved it (and she said yes!). So I would happily recommend James Allen to anyone thinking of buying an engagement ring 🙂
Buying jewellery online is scary. No way around it. Fortunately, James Allen exists to relieve those fears. James Allen had nothing, but great reviews and great products when I was looking to buy an engagement ring and wedding band.
That was what drew me in, but what kept me was the fact that they were always available, did their best to help in all situations, and provided an abundance of information to help ease concerns about buying a diamond online. In short, my experience was awesome and my fiance LOVED her ring!
I’m glad that I could get her such a nice ring for the budget I was on. James Allen goes above and beyond to prove that they’re the premier internet jeweller!!
Purchasing and customer service was fine, the issue I had was when the ring arrived I was faced with a $110 duty and tax bill when it arrived in Canada. I know that this is out of the hands of James Allen, and I also agreed to the fact that there would be extra duties and taxes, but I was not expecting to pay $110 (the ring itself was only $500). I was expecting to pay around $20-30 dollars, not $110. I wish there was more notice of how expensive the duties and taxes would be, they must ship to Canada frequently and have some idea of the costs. Disappointed to have to pay %22 more than I thought.
I designed an engagement ring using James Allen’s website. It was very easy to use and the filters made it easy to narrow down my search for diamonds that I wanted to look for based on price, carat size, cut, and clarity.
The 360 degree photo of the diamonds really allow you to see the actual diamond in great detail. It was a flawless experience designing the ring, and making my payment to James Allen. I could track the progress of the ring during production until it was ready. After just one week it was shipped overnight and arrived at my house. Great packaging with detailed papers about the diamond. It was a gorgeous ring. Just what I had hoped for. My fiancé loves it. (She said yes btw!) Definitely happy with my experience here.
Overall I was very satisfied with the experience and would strongly recommend JA to others. The website provides very detailed photo/video images, quality factors for diamonds, and convenient filters that allow user-friendly searches for desired jewelry.
I had several questions about selecting my gift and placing the order as a first-time JA shopper and readily received customer support that was helpful and professional through both chat and phone calls.
When receiving the jewelry shipment, the packaging was excellent (“gift-presentation ready” once unpacked from the shipping package) and included an appraisal that will be useful for insurance and future reference. My wife loved her emerald-shaped diamond pendant necklace with tapered bail on a 14K white gold cable-link chain for our 25th anniversary.
The only disappointment through this experience was that the online delivery tracking was not accurate and, despite a service representative assuring me of on-time delivery over the phone, the package came a day late.
Hopefully this is an area that will be improved in the future and only for this reason I rated 4 instead of 5 stars. But overall I had a great online shopping experience and would go back to JA for future purchases.
I purchased a 2.01 ct, VS2, I, Excellent cut GIA certified diamond from James Allen. Everything went flawlessly and I even got a discount for doing the wire transfer. Upon receiving it, I immediately took it to my family jeweler (of 4 generations) who said that it not only checks out, but that I got a better price than even he could before the markup he would have to add to make money.
I told my jeweler that I’d be happy to give him the opportunity to match the stone/price and I’d purchase from him, but he simply said I got a steal and saved at least $2,000 by buying from James Allen, even after paying taxes. He was amazed at the price and loved the stone.
When buying a diamond or any large purchase like this, excitement can often times be diminished slightly because you feel like you may have overpaid. This is one of the few times where I actually feel like I literally got the best price I simply could’ve.
