Three suspects, including two minors, have been charged in connection with an armed robbery at a Mississauga jewellery store on September 8, 2024.

The incident occurred at a jewellery store near Mavis Road and Britannia Road, where eight masked individuals wielded firearms and forced patrons and employees to the ground. They took jewellery and cash before fleeing in two stolen vehicles. No physical injuries were reported.

    Key Arrests in the Investigation

Following an extensive investigation by the Peel Regional Police’s Central Robbery Bureau, three individuals were identified and arrested. The suspects include:

    • A 23 male from Markham, charged with robbery.
    • A 14-year-old male from Toronto, charged with robbery and wearing a disguise with intent.
    • A 15-year-old male from Toronto, facing multiple charges, including five counts of robbery, four counts of wearing a disguise with intent, and failing to comply with a previous release order.

At the time of arrest, the 15-year-old was under a release order for prior robbery charges. Police suspect he is connected to multiple armed robberies and attempted robberies in Peel Region, including at jewellery stores, currency exchanges, and a pharmacy.

    Links to Other Criminal Activity

Police investigations suggest one suspect is linked to additional armed robberies in the area, pointing to recurring incidents at high-value retail locations, including jewellery stores. As a result of the investigation, police recovered three stolen vehicles and several items connected to the crimes. The investigation is ongoing, with additional charges expected.

    Implications for Jewellers

This case points to an ongoing threat to jewellery retailers from organised crime groups targeting high-value stores. It underscores the need for strong security measures, such as surveillance, secure storage, and partnerships with law enforcement. The involvement of youth in such crimes suggests a need for increased vigilance and preventive security practices.

Jewellers in Peel Region and other areas may wish to stay informed on security threats and consider updates from law enforcement. Industry associations can also support jewellers in implementing stronger safety protocols.

The Peel Regional Police continue to encourage anyone with additional information regarding this case or similar incidents to contact their Central Robbery Bureau or Crime Stoppers.
