Calgary Police are investigating a series of residential break-ins involving the theft of more than $2 million in high-value items, including jewellery and luxury watches. The offences took place between 26 February and 3 March in the neighbourhoods of Aspen Woods, Britannia, Upper Mount Royal and Crescent Heights. Police believe two to four individuals were involved.
High-Value Goods Targeted from Bedrooms
According to investigators, the suspects entered homes through second-storey access points and targeted primary bedrooms, where jewellery, high-end watches and designer clothing were taken. All incidents are believed to have occurred between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Police believe the victims and their homes may have been under surveillance prior to the break-ins, indicating a level of planning and selectivity in the items stolen.
Person of Interest Sought by Police
CCTV footage has led police to identify a person of interest who may have been present in the area during one of the incidents. He is described as approximately 5’8″ (173 cm) tall, with a medium build, brown hair, and brown eyes.
“Incidents like these have devastating impacts beyond losing valuable items; they leave a lasting emotional impact and affect communities’ sense of safety,” said Acting Inspector Travis Baker in a news release.
“If you see suspicious activity, don’t approach the individuals, take down a description of the person or the vehicle and call police.”
Anyone with information about the break-ins or the identity of the person of interest is asked to contact police at 403-266-1234 or submit tips anonymously via Crime Stoppers.
Be on the lookout
Jewellers – particularly those who handle second-hand jewellery or luxury watches -are advised to be alert for pieces that may match items reported stolen during this series of break-ins.
While police have not released a list of specific items, the stolen goods are understood to include high-value branded jewellery and watches. Jewellers, pawnbrokers and others in the secondary market should carry out enhanced due diligence when acquiring pre-owned stock, especially from new or unfamiliar sources.
Home Security Advice Issued
In response to the incidents, Calgary Police have issued guidance for securing valuables in residential settings. Recommendations include:
- Use safes that are bolted to the floor
- Install high-resolution (minimum 1080p) security cameras
- Limit visibility into the home by using blinds or privacy window film
- Increase lighting around entry points
- Monitor interior areas, particularly bedrooms
- Notify neighbours when leaving for extended periods

Ongoing Risk for the Jewellery Trade
These thefts reinforce ongoing risks associated with high-value goods and the possibility that stolen items may surface in resale channels. Jewellery businesses are encouraged to stay informed of developments and follow established procedures for verifying provenance, maintaining accurate records, and reporting any suspicious activity to authorities.
