The Canadian Gemmological Association (CGA) has extended the submission deadline for its 2025 Emerging Artist Design Competition.
Students now have until 11:59 p.m. EST on Tuesday, 15 July 2025 to enter their jewellery design proposals. Entries can be submitted through the CGA’s website at www.canadiangemmological.com.
Submission Details and Prizes
The competition is open to students and offers three cash prizes: CAD $1,000 for first place, CAD $500 for second place, and CAD $250 for third place. Winners will be announced later in the year, with prizes distributed at that time.
“Creativity knows no bounds, and we want to ensure every brilliant idea has the chance to shine. That’s why we’re extending the deadline for our design contest to July 15, 2025. I encourage all students to use this extra time to push their boundaries and surprise us with their creative and innovative pieces. Seize the extra time to wow us with your best work,” said Donna Hawrelko, president of the CGA.
Competition Overview
The Emerging Artist Design Competition is currently the only national jewellery design contest in Canada focused solely on students. It aims to provide students with the opportunity to showcase their work and gain visibility within the industry.
Full competition rules, eligibility requirements, and information about past winning entries are available on the CGA’s website.
Relevance to the Trade
Competitions of this kind help introduce new designers to the trade, contributing to the future talent pool and design approaches within the industry. They also serve to engage emerging creatives at an early stage, supporting the continued development of jewellery design in Canada.
Founded in 1958, the Canadian Gemmological Association provides gemmology education and contributes to the development of professional standards in gemstone sales and marketing. Its training programmes are used by individuals working in various areas of the gem and jewellery sectors across Canada.
