Security Intervention and Police Response
Mall security noticed the group and intervened as they approached a jewellery store. As police arrived, the individuals attempted to flee on foot.

Charges and Investigation
At the time of their arrest, the suspects were found carrying three empty hockey bags, two hammers, and two crowbars. The individuals charged include an 18-year-old from Toronto, a 16-year-old from Mississauga, and a 17-year-old from Brampton. Each faces multiple charges, including:
- Attempted robbery
- Disguise with intent
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence
The accused remain in custody pending a bail hearing.
Implications for the Jewellery Industry
This incident reflects the security risks faced by jewellery retailers. The presence of hammers and crowbars suggests the suspects may have intended a smash-and-grab attempt. The intervention of security and the police response prevented a potential theft.
Jewellery retailers, particularly those in shopping centres, may consider reviewing security measures in light of this incident. Surveillance, staff awareness, and coordination with law enforcement remain key considerations for crime prevention.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have urged anyone with relevant information to contact the Waterloo Regional Police Service or provide anonymous tips via Crime Stoppers.
